Every story has a beginning, and for Kainos Studios, that beginning was unexpected and rooted in a deep desire to create. It all started at the end of 2022 when I went searching for a new Bible to represent the new season I was walking into. I wanted a Bible that was clean, minimal, and marched my style. But what I found instead were options that felt too "girly," with frilly letters and flowery designs that just didn’t resonate with me.
A Spark of Inspiration
Frustrated by the lack of options, I casually mentioned to a friend that I had an idea to design my own Bible. She loved the idea, assuring me that there was a need for my taste in the marketplace and people would eat it up. Even though I didn’t have any plans to start a business, her words stayed with me. At the same time, I was going through a season where I was discovering a gift I hadn’t fully explored before—my gift of creativity. While I had experience as an event designer and had worked in marketing, I had never formally studied design. I knew I was creative but this was the first time I saw it as a gift from God.
A Year of Obedience
As the new year approached, I sat down to write out my goals for the year. After much prayer, I decided to make 2023 my year of obedience, and dedicated the entire year to exploring creativity in the Kingdom. If you’re going to study design and creativity why not study the best Creator there ever was and will be? I committed to spending 30 minutes a day learning about God as a designer, an artist, and a creator. I spent time reading the Bible, diving into passages about creation and creativity. It became a devotional practice—a way to connect with God through exploring the creative gifts He had placed within me.
During these daily sessions, I found myself making up "fake" products, not with the intention of selling them, but as a way to express creativity. I would create mood boards of product lines and create visuals, all as an act of obedience to what God was revealing to me about creativity. Through this experience I was able to hone in my niche passions, interests, and gifts.
Taking the Leap
In October, everything shifted. I was scrolling on TikTok and saw Ecclesiastes 11:4.
There are some things that you cannot be sure of. You must take a chance. If you wait for perfect weather, you will never plant your seeds. If you are afraid that every cloud will bring rain, you will never harvest your crops.
I took that verse as a call to action. That very week, after church on a Sunday, I bought a bunch of fabric and started creating the Bible cover designs I had been playing around with in my creative devotional time. I took a couple photos of the covers I made, posted the photos on TikTok for my friends to see, and went to bed.
At the time, I had only 100 followers, mostly friends. But when I woke up the next morning, the video had gone viral. It was clear that I was onto something, and I wanted to capitalize on the moment before someone else took the idea.
The Birth of Kainos Studios
From that moment, everything took off. I contacted local manufacturers right away and started the process of bringing these Bible covers to life. I formed an LLC, set up our website and started working on the packaging design. What began as a creative devotional practice had turned into a fully realized business—Kainos Studios was born.
Kainos, meaning "new" or "fresh" in Greek, perfectly captures the heart of Kainos Studios and the journey I’ve been on. The word kainos is not just about renovation or fixing what already exists—it represents something entirely new, a creation that never existed before. This reflects the transformation we experience in Christ, as Paul explains in 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” Paul deliberately chose the word kainos over neos in this passage because it speaks to the complete renewal we receive in Christ—a fresh existence, not a repair.
For me, Kainos Studios is more than a business—it’s a reflection of this profound truth. Each product is born from the belief that God doesn’t just renovate our lives; He brings something entirely new. This journey of creating modern, faith-inspired designs is rooted in that idea of fresh creativity.
A Community-Focused Mission
Since launching, Kainos Studios has gained incredible momentum, with over 3.3 million views on TikTok and 740,000 likes. But more importantly, it has allowed me to give back. Kainos Studios donates 10% of profits to organizations fighting against human trafficking and child exploitation, allowing the business to have a meaningful impact beyond just creating beautiful products.
If you’re reading this and feel inspired to take that leap of faith in your own life, know that God is the ultimate creator and designer, and He has placed gifts within you to reflect His creativity in unique ways. Whether it’s through art, business, or anything in between, let’s walk out our creativity together, knowing that we are called to create with purpose.
